General HOT Questions:

What is the mission of HOT Volleyball NYC?

    • Empowering young athletes into strong, confident leaders by building self confidence through skills & knowledge of the game

 

Intermediate Level:

  • Why should I do HOT Intramurals (HOT-i)?
    • This is the place for you to grow, this is a Developmental Intramurals, where you LEARN and develop as a volleyball player for the good of the team.
    • You don’t have to TRYOUT.  You are placed on a team or join as a team.
    • You can join with friends and play together which not everyone gets that chance.
    • You learn all the aspects of being on a team:  the commitment, the accountability, dealing with losing/winning, sportsman-like conduct, being dependable, learning the unknown details of games, build for a team goal while working on your individual goals too.

 

Intermediate/Advanced Level:

  • Why should I do HOT Intramurals (HOT-i)?

Do you have Beach Volleyball?

  • Yes we have Boys only and Co-ed and Girls only

What age groups are taught at HOT?

    • PreK – 3rd  HOT Little Spikers
    • 3rd – 5th  HOT Spikers
    • 6th – 8th Middle School
    • 9th-12th High School
    • 18+ Adults

What is the youngest grade taught at HOT?

    • PreK is the youngest grade taught.

Are there any games or tournaments?

      • YES, in the Intramurals (HOT-i) Program, there are Games & Tournaments
  • YES, in the Development League Play Program, there are simulated games in order to learn & develop experience with team concepts.
    • NO, games or tournaments are played outside of NYC.

Does HOT Volleyball NYC have teams?

    • YES, the Intramurals (HOT-i) Program has Official Games & Tournaments for the sole purpose to help teach and develop young athletes in competition.  These teams plays against one another in official games and tournaments.

Do you have Summer Camps?

    • YES, there are Indoor & Outdoor Summer Camps for the whole summer: June, July & August.  Indoor is at Loyola School (980 Park Ave & 83rd St) & St David’s Gym-Blue Door (215 East 94th St/ Between 2nd & 3rd Ave)

What is HOT Spikers?

    • Skill program for grades 3rd, 4th & 5th where they start learning about the sport and begin movements and training for all aspects of volleyball with detailed mechanics of all of the skills. (All Levels)

     

    What is the difference between League Development Program and Intramurals?

    • In  League Development Play, you drill team concepts & then incorporate those concepts into Play. Need to have solid basic skills & You work rotation, serve receive, defense, coverage & strategies. Co-Ed  (Intermed/Adv)
      • In Hot Intramurals (Hot-i)  You are placed on a team (no Tryouts) or can join as a team. You must have knowledge of basic skills already. You learn the importance of teamwork & work team concepts.  You have 1 or 2 days of practice day during week & 1 Game Day on weekend. Co-Ed (Intermed/Adv)

    What does HOT stand for? Is it like HOT Yoga?

      • High Octane Training 
      • It is not like HOT Yoga 🙂

    Why is HOT Volleyball NYC different from any other program out there?

      • We are about the Individual.  We are a development program to help athletes learn the Sport of Volleyball, grow in the sport by learning Basic Skills, Improving their individual skills, learn/work team concepts, strategies, how to make a team, HOW to be on a team, learn commitment, accountability, dependability and ultimately what it takes to WIN and how you change a loss into a challenge.  We help you reach your GOALS!!

    Does HOT Volleyball NYC have Travel Teams?

      • We are a Development Program and train athletes to learn HOW to make a team and what to do once you are on a team. We have HOT-i which are Intramural Teams (6 High School, 6 Middle School & 4 Little Spikers Grades 3rd to 5th)

    Are all programs Co-Ed?

      • Yes they are all Co-Ed except the BOYS ONLY programs.

    What is the difference between Skills Development & Development League Play?

      • In Skills Development you learn and work all skills every practice and you play at the end of every practice  in doubles or triples, never 6’s at this level because that is a whole other concept..  (All Levels)
      • In Development League Play you work team concepts and situations, you are confident in your Skills and you play in 6’s mainly.  You work rotation, serve receive, defense, coverage & strategies. (Intermed/Adv)

    How do I pick a Skills Program?

      • If you are new to Volleyball or played less than 6 months, then Register for:  Introduction to Volleyball.
      • If you have played for more than 6 months, but have forgotten some Basics, then Register for:  Skills Development or Skills Clinics
      • If you need more work on serving and a particular Skill or need a quick refresher, then Register for:  Skills Clinics because you can pick the dates you want to attend and Skill you want to work on.
      • If you are NOT confident in your skills, then Register for: Introduction to Volleyball, Skills Development or Skills Clinics.

    Which program should I choose if I am NEW to Volleyball & NOT confident with my Basic Volleyball Skills or I want to improve my Skills?

      • Intro to Volleyball, Skills Development & Skills Clinics are all programs to build your skills in the game.  You can sign up for any of those programs.  The difference is Intro to Volleyball is ONLY if you have played less than 6 months.  Skills Development Programs are for ALL Levels and work on improving your Skills.  Then, Skills Clinics are for when you want to work serving and 1 specific skill on a specific day and can be added to all the programs as an additional practice day (commit to 1 day or as many as you want). 

    Which program should I choose if I AM confident with my Volleyball Skills & now want to work team concepts?

      • You want to move into Development League Play & Intramurals (HOT-i).
      • In Development League Play you work team concepts and situations, you are confident in your Skills and you play in 6’s mainly.  You work rotation, serve receive, defense, coverage & strategies. Co-Ed (Intermed)
      • In Hot Intramurals (Hot-i) you are now placed on a team with practices & games/tournaments. You must have knowledge of basic skills and now you learn teamwork, team concepts. Co-Ed (Intermed/Adv)

    What is Intro to Volleyball?

      • It is the Best Skills Program, if you have Less than 6 months experience, where you learn & work all basics and all of the skills every practice.  You play in doubles or triples at the end to put all your Skills into movement in order to build your confidence in the game and start taking risks and having fun. It is Co-Ed (Beginners Only)

    What is the Athletic Escalation of HOT Volleyball NYC Programs?

      • Intro to Volleyball
      • 2. Skills Clinic – Work 1 Skill & Serving each clinic – pay as you go. Co-Ed (All Levels)
      • 3. Skills Development Program – Work all skills every practice & Play at end. Co-Ed (All Levels.
      • 4. Hot Intramurals (Hot-i)– Placed on a team. Have knowledge of basic skills already. Learn teamwork & work team concepts & have 1 practice day during week & 1 Game Day on weekend. Grades 6th & Up. Co-Ed (Intermed/Adv)
      • 5. Boys Skills & Play– Learn & work all basics, all skills every practice. Work team concepts, strategies & Play. 6th & Up (All Levels)
      • 6. Adults Skills & Play– Learn & work all basics, all skills every practice. Work team concepts, strategies & Play. 18+ Co-Ed  (All Levels)
